Brief Description Of The Project

The platform is a forum for cross-regional exchange of practices, initiatives, and developments in statistics in small island developing states. It is designed to transcend ocean boundaries and encourage dialogue among Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and their stakeholders to advance statistical development in countries, regions, and the wider SIDS as a unified group.

The SIDS Statistics Exchange Platform is a collaboration between various partners in statistics development in SIDS (PARIS21, Caribbean Community and their member countries, Pacific Community and their member countries, UNDESA SIDS Unit, and the UNOHRLLS). The objective of the platform is to serve as a forum for cross-regional exchange of practices, initiatives, and developments in statistics in small island developing states.

In the inaugural roundtable meeting of SIDS on the side-lines of the 2018 UN Statistics Commission Meeting, the Caribbean Community, Pacific Community, representatives from the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and South China Sea Region, PARIS21, the UNDESA-SIDS Unit and UNOHRLLS agreed to establish a regular forum for SIDS to discuss developments in statistics and to strengthen regional statistics co-ordination and co-operation in the different SIDS regions.

The SIDS Statistics Exchange Platform, launched in 2019 and hosted by PARIS21 with links with the various websites of its members, is open to everyone – SIDS, partners and stakeholders that support or have interest in developing statistics in SIDS.
