One of the main purpose o fa HIES is to evaluate the consumption and welfare of a country's population.

Determining the poverty line and the percentage of households that lives above it and those below.

Update the weighting pattern and the basket of goods and services for the Consumer PriceIndex.

CPI measures the price changes in the basket of goods and services commonly purchased by households.
It measures inflation which is often used by employers in wage negotiations and salary adjustments.

Findings from the HIES are also published for use by public and private sector organisations as wella s members of the public.
